Open-source Networking

I have been following some news on a startup company called Vyatta who's "developing a line of enterprise-grade, open source, network infrastructure products". This is complemented by an article on CNN titled "Will telecom go open-source?" This router platform is based on XORP. This platform is robust and could produce hardware which would drastically drop the cost of enterprise-networking gear. Another interesting note is that XORP has received funding from Microsoft.
